ABOUT HARDHATCITY
HardHatCity is an online social network offering free, customized profiles to members of the construction
industry: Consumers, Industry Professionals, Suppliers, and Employers. Its multi-functioning tools—ranging
from searchable profiles, projects, and job listings to expansive forums and blogs—enable any user to develop
a reputable presence, connect with consumers and professionals alike, and thrive in the construction
marketplace. From building homes to building careers and businesses, the relationships and resources are in
HardHatCity, the web's premier construction community.
TOP SITE FEATURES
People Searches: Searching is free for members. User-friendly searches for various profile characteristics
allow any member to locate and contact individuals or types of members in the HardHatCity network.
Job Board: All members may post searchable jobs or employment opportunities. Industry employers and
recruiters enjoy high placement rates by posting jobs targeted to HardHatCity's broad construction
demographic.
Project Postings: All members may post projects, complete with photos and descriptions, which are
searchable by interested contractors, tradespeople, and suppliers. Homeowners can post projects they need
completed around their home; contractors can post projects they want to subcontract out.
Forums: All members may participate in the forums to get information, share expertise, connect with
customers and colleagues, build credibility, and attract business. New discussion topics are added regularly.
Contractor Verification: Contractors may purchase this service annually to show that they are properly
licensed, bonded, and insured (requirements are variable by state residency). The Verified badge enhances a
contractor's reputation and offers security to potential clients. Searches for contractors may be filtered by
Verified status.
Individual Certification: Industry professionals (contractors, tradespeople, professional service providers)
may purchase this service annually to ensure a clear criminal background and a proven identity. The
Certification service offers trust and peace of mind to clients or employers before hiring, and searches for
professionals may be filtered by Certified status.
TOP PROFILE TOOLS
Classifications: Multiple descriptive classifications can be applied to all profiles so they can be easily found in
profile searches. Contractors and tradespeople can list unique bill rates for each classification.
Portfolio: Every profile features a portfolio with photos and descriptions—contractors and tradespeople can
highlight workmanship and past projects, homeowners can showcase completed improvements, and suppliers
can advertise special promotions. Members can also upload certifications and other documents to demonstrate
expertise or communicate specific information.
Connections and Favorites: Members can request "connections" with other members. This network of
clients and colleagues demonstrates a professional's reputation in the marketplace. A Favorites list allows
members to easily return to profiles of interest.
Blogs: Members may blog directly through their HardHatCity profiles, thereby building credibility and
increasing their social presence.
Sharing: Information on individual HHC profiles can easily be transferred to Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter
accounts to maximize exposure.
HISTORY OF HARDHATCITY
In owning and operating a general contracting business for over eight years, it became clear to Scott Trenery
that all members of the construction industry would benefit if they had an effective way to find and connect with
each other. Trenery brainstormed with his business partners, Jamil Weatherbee and Danielle Humbard, and
the team came up with the idea of an online network that wholly supports all industry members. They soon
launched a simplified version of their idea, BigHardHat.com, and the site's remarkable growth in the first six
months spurred development of the full-featured product, HardHatCity.com. Launched privately on May 4,
2010, and publicly on June 1, 2010, HardHatCity supports its members with the web's most effective tools for
finding the people, projects, jobs, and supplies to succeed, beyond measure, in the construction industry.
